RICHARD ANDERSON MEMORIAL

The memorial for the only San Pedro High School football player to have died at the school has been restored.  A black and gold granite memorial bench has replaced the original Richard Anderson Memorial which was cast in concrete and destroyed in 1997.

Many members of Richard Anderson's graduating class, the Class of Summer 1957, generously donated a total of $5,000 to create the new memorial bench, and establish a scholarship, administered by the SPHS Pirate Booster Club, in his honor.

The bench's inscription reads:  "Class of Summer 1957 remembers Richard A. Anderson 1940-1956.  1955 Champion Varsity Football Team.  Commissioner of Athletics."

SPHS Pirate Boosters Club made a donation to have the cement pad anchoring the new memorial bench installed by LAUSD.

A re-dedication ceremony for the new bench will be held somtime in Fall 2006, or at the 50 year reunion for the Class of Summer 1957 sometime in 2007.
